Biography

Silverine was founded by songwriter-vocalist-bass player Anssi Tamminen (b. 1970) in the early 1980s when he heard Stray Cats play their own inimitable brand of rockabilly and street rock. Captured by the aggressive sound of the band, he soon began writing his own songs. Instead of straight rock'n'roll, his tunes were energetic rock laced with a melancholy undercurrent. In addition to rockabilly, the influences in Tamminen's music include Danzig's blues-based hard rock, early 1990s grunge and dark metal á la Type O Negative.

Silverine was born in 2001 when Tamminen showed his songs to the hyperactive drummer Nicce Lindholm (b. 1974). Nicce has played/plays drums in many bands and with many artists (including Michael Monroe, Rivendell, Labyrinth, Spoon, Monsterbore). The band was completed with the addition of Janne Lahtinen to play the guitar, and soon recorded its first album "Silverine" (Irritum 2003).

The heavy and melancholy mood of the debut album was peppered with synthesizer themes and even some horns and some background a cappella vocals by a female trio. The track "Change" from the promo album played as Demo of the Week at Radio X, and also a video was made of the song. Although the album "Silverine" got positive reviews in the media in Finland and abroad, it never attracted much attention - not least because of almost non-existent marketing by the label...

In 2004 the band got a new guitar player, Ade Manninen (b. 1981) who thrives on thrash metal and heavy rock. Manninen's angular and aggressive playing, his musicality and natural talent for innovation have made a mark on the band's subsequent development, and Silverine's new songs are both more groovy and raw than before. But the guiding star of Silverine's music remains the same as when Tamminen wrote his first songs: total contempt for genres and disdain for stylists and musical purism.

Silverine spent the beginning of 2006 in the studio recording a new album. The session resulted in 10 new tunes, three of which were published as a promo single at the end of summer 2006. Silverine is now looking for a master deal for its record.

"I want to say that it´s a very good album with a GREAT sound! Since I´m a guy who has grown up with hardrock and heavy metal it makes me so glad to hear that occasionally very good music is still made within that genre. I´m IMPRESSED!"
